What is SDRA, DDR SDRAM or RDRAM?
SDRAM (synchronous
dynamic RAM) is the standard memory offering in the PC
industry. It is the high-speed memory measured in megabytes(MB). SDRAM
provides single-channel memory, and enables a system to run
applications and temporarily store documents that are being
worked on.
DDR SDRAM
(double data rate synchronous dynamic RAM) takes all
the features of ordinary SDRAM and increases the frequency
bandwidth to improve system performance and speed.
RDRAM (Rambus dynamic
RAM) provides the highest bandwidth from the fewest
pins at five-times the speed of industry available DRAM. RDRAM is able
to load a new stream of data before the previous stream has
completed, resulting in faster access speeds. The RDRAM memory
features dual-channel processing which doubles data throughput
to further enhance performance. This type of memory is optimized
for high-end multimedia tasks involving video and audio.

What are
TFT displays?
Laptops come with "built-in" displays. Most are
"active matrix" (TFT) displays, which have one
transistor per pixel to retain image quality between scans.
|
|

What is resolution and
what are XGA, SXGA+, and UXGA?
Resolution refers to the number of pixels, or
dots of color, viewable on a display. Resolution is often given
as the number of pixels in a row and the number in a column.
Generally, the higher the resolution, the sharper the image.
Extended Graphic Array (XGA) comes with
1,024x768 pixel resolution, Super XGA+ (SXGA+)
comes with 1400x1050 pixels, while Ultra Extended Graphic Array
(UXGA) comes with 1600x1200 pixels.
|
|

What is a Processor?
Processor is the "brain" of your
desktop or laptop PC. Generally, the faster the processor, the
faster the computer can work. Processor speed is measured in
megahertz (MHz), and, the greater the MHz, the faster the
system.

How do I Trouble Shoot for Battery failure:
If the actual operating time of the battery is
much shorter than the expected operating time, you can fully
discharge and recharge the battery for at least 3 times to solve
the problem. Please disconnect the AC adapter from the system
and remove the battery pack out of the compartment about 15-20
minutes, and then reconnect the plug as well as the battery to
force the system to recharge the battery. When the battery is
being recharged, keep the notebook power off until it is fully
recharged.
|
|

What is USB?
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. USB is a new
4-PIN serial peripheral bus that is capable of cascading low /
medium speed peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, joystick,
scanner, printer, modem, Ethernet card, hard disk. With the new
USB portable memory keys now available at super low prices, you
can now transport large amount so of data with a simple plug 'n
play key.

How to setup a PCMCIA modem for AOL?
Please read the
Installation Instruction (PDF file).
|
|

How do identify the system BIOS version?
The system BIOS version appears on the upper left
corner of the POST (Power On Self Test) screen: System Bios V
x.xx Date xx-xx-xx.

How could I install the PCMCIA Ethernet Card in Windows NT?
1. For some models
of Laptop, you need to set the O/S option in BIOS to ‘WinNT’
before installing windows’ NT.
2. Install Windows’
NT service pack from Microsoft after installing windows’ NT on
your Laptop.
3. Install Video and
Audio driver for windows’ NT from the driver disk comes with the
Laptop.
4. Reboot the system
and "insert Ethernet card into the PCMCIA slot before turning
the unit on".
5. Double click on Control panel
->
Network -> Adapter -> Add, install the Ethernet card driver for windows’ NT and set
up the IRQ, I/O port and I/O memory address for the Ethernet
card.
6.
Enter your
Domain name, User name and Password by your network
administrator.
7.
Try different
IRQ, I/O port and I/O memory address for the Ethernet card if
you could not connect to your network.

Trouble shooting floppy disk failure?
Try different floppy disks and
unlock the ‘write protect’ on the disk.
If
you are testing a bootable floppy disk, please set up boot up
sequence at: A; C; CD-ROM in the CMOS setting. If it is an
external or swappable floppy disk, try to turn off the laptop,
reconnect the floppy disk drive to the system. Ensure they are
in good connection. Then return on the unit and test the floppy
disk drive again.
